New Events Gain Traction In Acadiana

This weekend brings lots of new activities trying to grow and develop in Acadiana. Some events, such as NTRFST, will have their introduction into the community, and others, such as Broussard Community Fair, will have its third. All of the new-ish events are family-friendly, aside from Wineaux, for obvious reasons.

11/16: Wineaux: A Sipping Experience: This Friday marks the third annual wine and shopping experience at Sugar Mill Pond in Youngsville. Wineaux: A Sipping Experience is a 21+ event filled with wine, great food, dancing and, of course, shopping from 5-10 p.m. Romacelli and Pour will provide a wine and tasting menu for tapas-sized plates. Vendors will be dispersed throughout Sugar Mill Pond. A selfie station, henna tattoos, tarot readings and more will be available, as well as a cocktail bar! KTDY’s Jaycee, DJ RV and Souled Out will provide the soundtrack to the evening. Tickets are $40 for general admission and $75 for VIP passes at SocialEntertainment.net

11/16: Friday Lagniappe Happy Hour: Lagniappe Records’ monthly DJing gig at Saint Street Inn commences at 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. Saint Street’s small plates and cocktails will be available for this event, which happens every Friday afternoon throughout the fall and winter.

11/17-18: Broussard Community Fair: This Saturday and Sunday, the third annual Broussard Community Fair will be held on the campus of St. Cecilia and Sacred Heart Church in Broussard, starting at 10 a.m. The weekend includes festival rides, a poker run, 5k run, face painting, slides, arcade games and a $5,000 raffle prize.

11/17-19: State of La Danse: The University of Louisiana at Lafayette School of Music and Performing Arts’ annual faculty and guest artist dance concert commences this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Guest choreographers Clare Cook, in collaboration with architecture students, Sonia DeVille, Cathy Hebert, Amanda Martin and more, worked to bring this modern ballet together. Alumni, senior citizens and students’ tickets are $5. Current students are admitted for free. General admission is $10.

11/17: NTRFST Vol. 1, Le prototype: The Alliance de Française de Lafayette is proud to announce a new fundraiser commemorating its inclusion as a member of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophone. The inaugural event, which will be held at the Wurst Biergarten, strives to launch a year-long fundraising campaign with monthly festivals to increase AFl’s visibility and capacity to interact with francophone cultures in and around Lafayette. The goal is to raise enough money to hire a full-time staff in a dedicated workspace to operate a culture center, school, and Francophone business incubator. NTRFST will feature producers and DJs along with some special surprises. Tickets are $10 at aflafayette.org. Students and AFL members get discounted entry.
