White Hot Wedding

Can your bridesmaids wear white, too?

Since the Victorian era, when Queen Victoria wore a white lace dress on her wedding day, it has been the color of choice for brides. Historically, wearing white, symbolized purity and virginity. Times have changed however and while brides can and do wear anything they wish, many keep with this tradition because of the crisp, classic beauty of an all white dress – plus it’s a showstopper when no one else is wearing the color.

What would happen though, if the bride weren’t the only one in white? It’s a Wediquette no-no for any guest to consider wearing white, unless otherwise told to, but what if the bride dresses her own bridal part all in white?

It’s a notion that could have some moms and grandmas cringing, but the bridal masses embraced the all black trend and we foresee the same warm welcome for maids all in white.

At a recent wedding, we noted that the bride’s gown was slightly off-white and the maids had stark white, long flowing gowns – each looked flawless. Melissa Estess, owner of The Bridal Boutique by MaeMe, says that in face this new idea is trending and she sees it becoming even bigger in the near future.

Our personal opinion is that the look could make for a clean, chic look while adding a light and airy feel with the color. It could also compliment an off-white dress, or one with a different color.
