Dressed to Impress

Pre-royal wedding dress inspiration leading up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials

With the royal wedding less than 24 hours away, almost every news outlet and social media user is talking of nothing but wedding details, especially that of what Meghan Markle’s will be wearing on her wedding day.

Kate Middleton made waves with her Alexander McQueen long-sleeved showstopper – sister Pippa Middleton even more so with her figure-hugging McQueen gown. And speculation around what Markle will wear has everyone making their own guesses.

Instead of continuing the guessing – though we do think it will be more figure-flattering, as well as long-sleeved – we thought we’d take a look at our favorite royal wedding dresses from around the world.

First on our list is Princess Claire of Luxembourg. For her 2013 wedding, Princess Claire opted for a long-sleeve Elie Saab gown covered entirely in lace for her marriage to Prince Félix. The look was classic, elegant and perfect for a princess.

Next is Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. The Crown Princess wore a gown designed by Swedish designer Pär Engsheden. The look had an off-the-shoulder neckline and cinched detailing at the waist.

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention our favorite actress turned princess – sorry, Meghan Markle – Grace Kelly. The starlet wore a long-sleeve, synched waist gown by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Academy Award-winning costume designer Helen Rose.

Queen Elizabeth II’s mother Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon makes our list of favorites with the quintessential 1920’s gown created by Madame Handley Seymour (a former court dressmaker for Queen Mary) she wore to her 1923 wedding to Prince Albert, Duke of York – later crowned King George VI.

These are just a few of the many royal wedding gowns, but they definitely make the list for a few of our favorites and we are sure Meghan Markle’s dress will top our list once the future royal makes her grand entrance tomorrow, May 19.

Do you have a favorite? Let us know in the comments.
