Real Wedding: A Philanthropic “I Do”

There are few things in this world cuter than a puppy – or a ferret or a kitten. Carley Self and Chris Sercovich so much in this concept, that they decided to get married surrounded by all of the adoptable pets at the Louisiana SPCA. With their furry attendants in tow, Sercovich and Self said “I Do” on June 21 in the facility’s Ochsner Courtyard.
“Our goals were to get married and raise some money for the SPCA,” says Self, who with Sercovich is an LSPCA foster parent.
“We chose to get married at the SPCA because fostering was, and is, a big part of our relationship,” she says. “We typically handle the very young and very challenging foster cases. It really builds a relationship when faced with the sort of challenges that that kind of fostering can bring. It built a true partnership in us and we wanted to honor that. We had always discussed registering for donations to the SPCA instead of gifts. But, when he proposed it just made sense to take it one step further and have the actual ceremony at the place that built our relationship into the strong bond that it is today.”
The couple enlisted the help of Matthew Foster Photography to capture the day that included cake and “pupalato” from Sucre. The bride’s purple dress is from Italy Direct Clothing in the French Quarter. Her hair was done by Felicia Cary at Headcase in Algiers Point and makeup was by Krystal Lambert with Krystal Clear Esthetics.
“Our favorite part of the ceremony is that we streamed it live on Facebook,” says Self. “We only had our parents there so the rest of our extended family interacted with us via Facebook live. It was a very unique experience for us to get back to the hotel that night and watch the live feed of our ceremony. It was so fun to read all the comments that our friends, family and people from all over the country were saying. We had so much fun talking about our nervousness and pointing out things about the ceremony that one of us noticed and the other didn’t.”
Chris and Carley still encourage people to donate to the SPCA through their wedding website here.
