Beauty Alert

Makeup by Meggan’s new cosmetic line is lightweight, long lasting and humidity and sweat resistant

When it comes to the beauty products and the makeup a person uses every day, there are few who can be trusted more than an experienced makeup artist.

Since 2005, New Orleans makeup artist Meggan Ory has been sharing her talents with brides  across the city and beyond.

Now, Ory is taking her skill and knowledge a step further with a new cosmetic line.

Launched early this month, Ory debuted Makeup by Meggan Cosmetics. The line includes a cream foundation, citrine oil, “Tiffany” powder and foundation brush, all of which were meticulously designed by Ory herself. This line joins the line of lip gloss Ory released earlier this year to rave reviews.

It can be difficult to find makeup that is light-weight, gives maximum coverage and lasts through most activity, but Ory has hit her mark.

We recently stopped by the Makeup by Meggan studio in Metairie to be color matched — a service Ory offers to anyone looking for help to find the perfect shade — and get a tutorial on how to use the new products.

Ory expressed that her goal was to make applying her makeup as easy as possible. Each purchase comes with a “how-to” insert with detailed instructions on how to apply the makeup; and Ory has produced two “how-to” videos that show the artist herself applying the products and showing a step-by-step process.

One of the best aspects of the makeup, especially the cream foundation, is how lightweight it feels. Makeup can be extremely heavy and leave one feeling their makeup sit on their face. The cream base and the “Tiffany” powder to set creates a combo you forget is even there.

Ory clearly designed the line with brides in mind — the foundation and powder are long lasting, even through those potentially sweaty reception dance parties, and the white of the powder does not produce a white flashback in wedding photos. A winning combination.

Products

  • Expensive Skin Foundation: Cream foundation formula with a flawless finish. Medium coverage that is buildable to full. Long wearing formula that is humidity and sweat resistant. Cruelty free, vegan and noncomedogenic (does not clog pores)
  • Tiffany Powder: Finely milled powder perfect for setting foundation and baking target areas of the face. Helps absorb shine to keep your makeup in place all day.
  • Citrine Oil: Citrine Oil is a dry oil that helps balance both oily and dry skin. Rich in grape seed oil, sunflower oil, and jojoba oil, as well as antioxidants which are said to help protect skin from the environment.

Each piece, tips from the pro and the product’s full description can be found on www.makeupbymeggan.com and part one of her makeup tutorial can be found below. Visit the Makeup by Meggan YouTube page for part two.

Let Them Eat Cake: What inspired you to start a makeup line?
Meggan Ory: I have always had so many random products in my kit and would constantly be changing what I was using because I would grow tired of it. I wanted to create a line that I knew worked and that I would always love. I also wanted to create a line that was great for both mature skin and young skin as finding makeup that looks beautiful on mature skin can be challenging.

LTEC: What’s your favorite product you’ve created (so far)?
MO: That's a hard one. It’s impossible for me to pick just one. They are all so unique.

LTEC: What was your mission or what did you set out to achieve or accomplish when creating a makeup line?
MO: My mission was to create makeup that worked. Makeup that not only looked great but also photographed beautifully. Makeup that would give you that glamorous look that we all want without feeling heavy or cakey.

LTEC: What’s next for Makeup By Meggan Cosmetics?
MO: Hmmmm… a little birdie told me a MBYM liquid foundation is in the future.
