The New Orleans Mayors: deLesseps Morrison

 

Beginning on Wednesday, October 7th, the Louisiana Humanities Center (LHC) will host a bi-weekly series of panel discussions on the last seven mayors of New Orleans. Each panel will be dedicated to a different mayor, from deLesseps Morrison through Ray Nagin, with scholars, journalists, and former staffers exploring the elections, challenges and legacies of these leaders. The events will be free and open to the public. The New Orleans Mayors aims to provide historical perspective on the office of the Mayor; generate new interest in city history; and contribute to public dialogue in the months before the 2010 mayoral election. Through a partnership with EngageNOLA, acoalition of young professional organizations and individuals dedicated to civic engagement, the series will offer a venue for citizens to hear directly from participants and scholars of recent New Orleans political history. Schedule of panels (all Wednesdays @7pm, except for Tuesday, Oct. 20th @7pm)October 7: deLesseps Morrison, moderated by Dr. Bobby Dupont, UNOOctober 20: Victor Schiro, moderated by Dr. Larry Powell, TulaneNovember 4: Moon Landrieu, moderated by Errol Laborde, New Orleans MagazineNovember 18: Dutch Morial, moderated by Norman Robinson, WDSUDecember 2: Sidney Barthelemy, moderated by Dr. Ed Chevernak, UNODecember 16: Marc Morial, moderated by Dennis Woltering, WWLJanuary 13: Ray Nagin, moderated by Clancy Dubos, Gambit Doors open at 7 pm. Admission is free, but space is limited and seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. For media inquiries, contact LHC Program DirectorBrian Boyles at 504.620.2632 or boyles@leh.org. Visit www.leh.org for more information on the LHC.
