In 1994, Dr. Ken Roy founded Addiction Recovery Resources, Inc. on one basic principle: Addiction is a treatable disease. Since then, ARR, Inc. has developed into Louisiana’s premier private alcohol and chemical dependency treatment center, offering confidential, comprehensive and affordable care for individuals and families affected by the disease of addiction.
Patients receive a free assessment upon arriving at the center, which offers a whole range of successful treatment options and programs including outpatient detoxification, residential and outpatient treatment, chronic pain management, outpatient psychotherapy, medical professionals’ evaluations and treatment and continuing care. All programs are accredited by CARF. A treatment team of certified and licensed physicians, counselors and nurses lead medically directed programs that address the physical, mental and spiritual dimensions of addictive disease, including dual-diagnosis. When patients return to their homes, they are offered access to a continuing care program, which is statistically proven to increase the chances for long-term success.
Dr. Roy is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, fellow of the American Society of Addictive Medicine and the recipient of the 2008 Annual Psychiatric Leadership Award, presented by the Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association. Dr. Roy also was recognized as a 2008 Healthcare Hero by New Orleans City Business. In 2006, he was honored with the Excellence in Treatment Award from the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

Board-certified in allergy and immunology, David L. Schneider M.D. specializes in asthma, sinus infections, hay fever, hives, drug allergies, insect sting reactions, sinus headaches, migraines, acid reflux and chronic cough. Dr. Schneider also leads a cutting-edge research team in ongoing clinical trials. Rather than just writing a prescription to match a symptom, Dr. Schneider’s team endeavors to establish the cause of the symptoms, thereby delivering focused therapy, which may allow superior symptom control with fewer medications. “It’s very gratifying to wean down medications,” explains Dr. Schneider. “This reduces costs, eliminates potential drug interactions and improves quality-of-life measures. We enjoy pinning down the diagnosis and endeavor to provide focused therapy for acute illnesses, as well as maintaining excellent control of chronic illnesses when present.”
Additionally, because this is not a volume-based practice, the staff and physician can sit down and try to understand the whole story. “Patients’ conditions can be complicated and they often arrive with diagnoses that need consideration and confirmation,” Dr. Schneider says. “There may be multiple components associated with the specific condition.”
Procedures done in the office include spirometry to measure lung function, allergy testing, tympanometry to measure the motion of the eardrum and rhinoscopy to obtain cultures and allow more complete examination of the throat.

Dr. Irum Alisha Qureshi is board-certified in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. She offers expert diagnosis and treatment of the full spectrum of allergic disorders of any type including asthma, eczema, sinus disease, recurrent infections, possible hypogammaglobulinemia, combined immunodeficiency and other conditions with possible immunologic basis. She treats children and adults.
She takes pride in spending time and working closely with families to offer the latest information and treatment options to provide relief for acute conditions and long term control for chronic diseases such as asthma. “Educating parents and families certainly pays off” she says. “It improves their understanding of the disease process and helps patients avoid the cause of their symptoms when possible.”
“To some, asthma and sinus allergies are only seasonal, but for others these can be very disabling and damaging,” Dr. Qureshi explains, “With the ability to define a specific immune defect and the range of treatments and cures available today, there is no reason to suffer unnecessarily. What’s more, children with allergies are often misdiagnosed and labeled with disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity.”
Her practice provides a comprehensive range of services to create a very high quality allergy and immunology clinic using the most current best practice methods.
She now practices in Covington. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, call her Covington office at (985) 893-75780.

During the last 20 years, EGAN Healthcare Services has developed their team of clinicians to provide the best possible quality of care. The consequences of falls can be devastating. EGAN Healthcare Services systematically screens all patients admitted under their care for falls’ risk and their rehab team performs a complete in-home falls’ risk assessment for high-risk patients. Without remodeling their entire surroundings or revolutionizing the way they go about life, EGAN Healthcare has developed a simple yet effective program that positively impacts patients’ chances of preventing a fall while they go about their daily life in the home.

There has never been a better time to have a cataract. “We’ve seen major advances in IntraOcular Lenses during the last two years,” says Dr. Stephen Brint of Singer-Brint Custom Vision. “With cataract surgery, when we remove the cloudy lens of the eye, whether a little cloudy or very cloudy, we replace it with a new lens, the IOL.”
With the new generation of implants available today, improved quality of vision, comparable to that of a 30-year-old, is possible, correcting existing nearsightedness, farsightedness and even astigmatism.
“Taking it one step further, over 30 percent of our patients are now choosing one of the three FDA-approved lifestyle IOLs that correct for multiple ranges of vision – distance, intermediate and near. “
“While cataract surgery has become extremely successful and easy for the patient,” says Brint, “this new generation of IOLs allows us to take it to the next level – one where patients who have worn glasses all their lives may no longer need them.”
While most patients are excellent candidates for these “next” generation lenses, the only way to be certain is a complimentary evaluation offered at Singer-Brint Custom Vision. Amy at (504) 888-2020 would be pleased to schedule this evaluation for you.

The care is Patient-Centered and they are committed to meeting the individual needs of the patient, the family and other care givers; to treating the whole patient – body, mind and spirit; to collaborating with the physician and others who share in the care of the patient; and to educating the community concerning health and wellness.
Their “Patients First” mentality is what drives their operations. Following the loss of teaching facilities in the New Orleans area, Drs. Labadie and Labadie have devoted a significant amount of time to teaching Tulane University medical residents and medical students. Dr. Juan Labadie and Eugenio Labadie became clinical assistant professors for Tulane University School of Medicine, creating an opportunity that has become mutually advantageous for both parties. As chairman of the Department of OB/GYN for West Jefferson Medical Center, Dr. Eugenio C. Labadie has been able to expose the students to state-of-the-art medical advances and has worked tirelessly to ensure that each of the students have had excellent clinical exposure to the study of OB/GYN. Dr. Juan J. Labadie’s interactions with the students have been so successful that he was voted “Best Teacher of Obstetrics and Gynecology” by the last two graduating classes of physicians at Tulane.
One of the greatest accomplishments of this relationship is that the Labadies have been able to recruit an excellent physician. Their newest associate, Dr. Amy Vaughan, was the administrative chief resident, and upon graduation, she was awarded for her teaching excellence in OB/GYN and was voted for “Outstanding Residency Performance in OB/GYN.” The Labadies are extremely pleased to have Dr. Vaughan join their practice.

With a special focus on the complete health of women, the Tulane University Health Sciences Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has been providing leadership and cutting-edge medical services in the New Orleans area for more than 100 years. “Our department has the full gamut of services,” says Gabriella Pridijan M.D., professor and chairman at Tulane School of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “We offer women’s comprehensive health care and we strive to take care of the entire person.”
Tulane’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Department has specialists in gynecological cancer, high-risk obstetrics (maternal fetal medicine) and reproductive endocrinology and fertility. The doctors and staff provide individualized attention for every patient’s needs. “The strongest part of our department is our consideration of each woman as unique and we spend time with her during the visit,” says Pridijan. Additionally, the open-minded environment created by a university hospital means that problems are looked at from multiple angles in order to find the best path of care for each patient.
As part of the greater Tulane Medical Center, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology also offers some of the finest facilities and technologies in the field today, including the cutting-edge ultra sonography, used for first trimester screenings and for measuring the size of an early fetus and the amount of lymphatic fluid present – measurements that can predict some birth defects.

Caring for patients since 1973, doctors and staff have helped restore and maintain orthopaedic health care for thousands of New Orleanians. Dr. Kenneth Adatto, Dr. Bernard Manale, and Dr. John Watermeier have more than 50 years of private practice experience. Together with the certified physician assistant, Ellen Edmondson, they provide one of the most trusted teams of board certified orthopaedic surgeons in the region. Top quality customized care, combined with state-of-the-art technology and procedures, ensures that patients receive the most effective treatments and follow-up programs. The group is dedicated to caring for patients with problems of the musculoskeletal system, including injuries and degenerative processes involving the extremities and spine that require surgery. While the top-flight team makes every effort to achieve a conservative resolution before considering surgery, when it becomes necessary, they specialize in spine surgery (including minimally invasive, outpatient cervical spine surgery), arthroscopic surgery, carpal tunnel release and many aspects of orthopaedic conservative care.
Dr. Adatto, Dr. Manale and Dr. Watermeier are fellows with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. At the Orthopaedic Center for Sports Medicine, Charles Murphy M.D., Thomas Lyons M.D., and Luis M. Espinoza M.D. are all fellowship-trained, board certified orthopaedic surgeons who specialize in treatment of the shoulder and knee. “We are an orthopaedic practice with subspecialty expertise in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery,” says Dr. Lyons. He adds, “Arthroscopic treatment of the shoulder offers significant advantages over older treatment methods.” One element that sets the practice apart is an in-office MRI scanner that is accredited by the ICAMRL. “Patients who come in and need an MRI can schedule it right here,” says Dr. Lyons.
The Orthopaedic Center for Sports Medicine maintains a special focus on delivering quality orthopaedic care to athletes. “Every effort is made,” says Dr. Espinoza, “to accommodate our patients with timely appointments and a broad range of services all aimed at helping them heal and return to pre-injury form.” To that end, arthroscopic, minimally invasive surgeries have made a great difference in patient outcomes. “There is less disruption of soft tissue,” says Dr. Espinoza, “which promotes less scar tissue and decreases post-operative pain.”
In addition, the Orthopedic Center for Sports Medicine has been affiliated with the New Orleans Zephyrs since their arrival in New Orleans in 1993. “Over the years,” says Dr. Charles Murphy, “we have coordinated orthopaedic care with the Milwaukee Brewers, Houston Astros, Washington Nationals, New York Mets and currently the Florida Marlins.”

For 38 years, the doctors at Pontchartrain Bone and Joint Clinic have been providing expert orthopaedic services to the people of the New Orleans metropolitan area. “We treat musculo-skeletal disorders in children, athletes, and up to elderly people,” says Jeffery J. Sketchler M.D. Treatment is offered for sports injuries, arthritis, joint pain, motor vehicle accidents, workers’ compensation injuries and fractures. Dr. Sketchler says that less invasive surgical techniques, such as computer-assisted knee replacement and arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery, are now available. Conservative treatment is always considered first before a decision for surgery is made. Patient input is given the highest consideration during any course of treatment. Returning to a normal, active lifestyle is of the upmost importance after an injury or due to a chronic problem. Doctors and staff strive to achieve that goal whether surgery or conservative treatment is involved.
