CD - Crescent City folk rockers The Acadias have released a self-titled album. Lead singer Mary Truxillo belts out intriguingly narrative lyrics, backed up by the occasional mellow harmony of Mark Johnson; Robert Speyrer and Andy Lade round out the quartet with spunky banjo, accordion and percussion.

NOVEL - Daniel Woodrell, well-known for his adapted novels Winter’s Bone and Woe to Live On (reissued and filmed as Ride with the Devil), is also the author of The Bayou Trilogy, now available as a single paperback. Consisting of the three books Under the Bright Lights, Muscle for the Wing and The Ones You Do, the trilogy unfolds through the eyes of Detective Rene Shade of the fictional St. Bruno Parish as he labors to keep the bayou’s seedy underbelly at bay.

CHILDREN - Marianne Berkes has set a counting lesson to the tune of “Over in the Meadow” in Over in the Forest: Come and Take a Peek, with illustrations by Jill Dubin. The story teaches children how to count to 10 through lyrics and woodland creatures, and she has provided the melody for the original song in the back of the book as well.

MEMOIR - Journalist-turned-creative-writer Constance Adler recounts her journey to, away from and back to New Orleans in a series of vignettes in My Bayou: New Orleans Through the Eyes of a Lover. In her pages, she suffers through a year in a back brace; gets mugged; practices “vodou;” buries one dog and adopts a new one; gets married and divorced; evacuates from New Orleans; and returns to rebuild.
