This year’s four-day charity shopping weekend at Saks Fifth Avenue began with the annual “Key to the Cure Kickoff Gala 2016” at the Shops at Canal Place. From Thursday, October 27 until Sunday, October 30, two percent of sales at the New Orleans shop were donated to the research programs of the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium.
A host of the finest restaurants and caterers filled the three floors of the retail store. Guests mingled throughout the floors with bites and beverages in hand as they shopped. New Orleans musicians performed lively tunes; the lineup included the Uptown Music Theater, Brazilian tunes by Chegado, John Boutte and the Kristin Diable trio.
A designer fashion show, Lela Rose’s 2017 Spring Runway Collection, took place amidst the festivities, featuring Roberto Coin, Sharon Meyer and Piranesi. Additional trunk shows and activities, including Roberto Cavalli Fall 2016 and Robert Graham Fall 2016, took place throughout the weekend.
Event chairs included Carolyn Elder, Saks Vice President and General Manager; Penny Baumer; Susan Zackin; Sue Singer, Corporate Liaison; and “Fabulous Under Forty” Co-Chairs Meaghan Bonavita, Colette Iteld and Jessica Talbot. Over the past 15 years, Saks Fifth Avenue’s Key to the Cure has raised more than $2 million for cancer research in Louisiana.
