If you thought the New Orleans Opera put on a show, you should see what their Women’s Guild, celebrating its 60th anniversary, can do! Borrowing from Aida, the group brought all of Egypt to the J.W. Marriott on April 25 for their Opera Ball 2009. Committee members include: Diane Dupin, Barbara Sands, Faith Pepperone, Brenda Reilly, Celeste Judell, Mary Ann Valentino, Tanya Saladrigas, Jo Ann Wisdom and Rose Annette Chisesi.

Attendees were transported to a foreign and hypnotizing world of snake charmers, belly dancers, pyramids and jewels! Lee Anne Leopold Savoie, a co-chair with husband Ira, and Virginia Eckholdt helped put together the beautiful centerpieces with stunning 24-inch candleholders. Some MVPs of
the soiree were Junior Committee co-chair Norma Jean McClain; auction committee co-chairs Diane Fee and Margie Breeden, with
help from Janice Phillpott; and emcee Liz Reyes.

Silent and live auction goodies were as if they came from King Tut’s tomb! There was a Rhea egg purse designed by Vivian Alexander, a set of pearls valued at $25,000, a black diamond ring, a Yorkie pup (brand-new, not from a crypt), vacays and art galore.

Entertainment was provided by Kryss of Crescent Lotus Dance, band Orleans and Honorary Chair Ronnie Lamarque, who festively joined the band for a few songs. At the end of the night, everyone took home a bronze scarab. In addition, patrons received artwork by Del Weller who created a magnificent painting for the ball.
