The Tony Award-winning smash The Book of Mormon opened this week and runs at the Saenger Theatre through Oct. 27. If you weren’t able to snag tickets yet, the box office will offer a limited number of $25 tickets through a lottery two hours before each performance (just to warn you, though, that if you find the humor of South Park profane, you probably won’t like this). Rebecca Theim, a former T-P’s reporter, signs copies of her new book Hell and Hell High Water: The Battle to Save the Daily New Orleans Times-Picayune tonight at Octavia Books. The book charts the changes at New Orleans’ former daily newspaper, as well as the newspaper industry in general (we excerpted it in this month’s New Orleans Magazine). Info here.

… and right on the heels of the New Orleans Film Fest, the New Orleans Irish Film Festival opens tonight at the Prytania for a weekend of films. Info here.
The name says it all: the free three-day Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival has two stages of blues musicians and vendors purveying smoked meat in various regional styles. Info here.
The Treme Culture Fest also kicks off today with a gumbo battle, lecture series and neighborhood bar crawl, and the rest of the weekend includes service projects, more lectures, a jazz Mass and more. Info here.
For kid-friendly Halloween fun, Boo at the Zoo opens tonight, offering trick-or-treating, games, both scary and non-scary haunted houses and a “ghost train.” Info here.
