Thursday, Oct. 3
The enigmatic Icelandic post-rock group Sigur Ros performs tonight at Champions Square. Julianna Barwick, a Louisiana native who also plays with vocal loops and other effects, opens. Info here.

Billed as celebrating the “unsung heroes” of American Music, the annual Ponderosa Stomp festival kicks off today. Besides concerts, the weekend includes a music history conference, a record show and tonight things kick off with a party. Info here.

Folk-rock outfit The Head and the Heart performs a free concert on Tulane’s Lavin-Bernick Center quad. Info here.

 

Friday, Oct. 4
We’ve seen many iterations of A Streetcar Named Desire in this town, but Scottish Ballet’s dance version is sure to be different. NOBA’s season-opening show is set to a jazz-inspired score. Info here.

Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago and ZZ Top headline the Gretna Heritage Festival, starting tonight. The festival also features a German Beer Garden, Italian Village, rides and more. Info here.

Comedians D.L. Hughley and Eddie Griffin take the stage at the Saenger Theatre tonight. Info here.

 

Saturday, Oct. 5
… also at the Saenger, Kristin Chenoweth is backed by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra at the theater’s opening gala concert. I interviewed David Skinner, the Saenger’s general manager, about the theater’s opening for this month’s New Orleans Magazine. Concert info here.

Celebrating the end of the summer art slump, Art for Arts Sake includes art gallery and museum openings around town and a block party and site-specific installations on Julia Street. Info here.

Sunday, Oct. 6
The hot band of the moment is the sister band Haim, whose music is reminiscent of the classic pop-rock of Fleetwood Mac and Phil Collins but at the same time unique. In a moment of pop-culture synergy, the band recently covered Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” for a BBC series. Show info here.
