With Canal Street theaters re-opening and filling their calendars, the Joy Theater has taken note and beefed up its own slate of programming with a theater series. Beatlemania Now! It’s Friday the 13th and a faint fall chill is in the air (for New Orleans standards, at least). What better thing to do than to visit the House of Shock, the Halloween tradition that re-opens today. The haunted house is known for its volunteers dressed in horror movie-caliber makeup and costumes, and an outdoor festival includes circus-style entertainment and pyrotechnics. Info here.
Staged readings of Four Little Girls: Birmingham 1963 commemorate the 50th anniversary of a racially motivated bombing at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala. A discussion follows the readings. Info here.

The Canadian twin sister duo Tegan and Sara, a guilty pleasure you don’t have to feel guilty about, plays the House of Blues tonight.
