Thursday, Sept. 5

PostSecret, the website and book series that was in the news recently for a murder confession that turned out to be a hoax, hosts an event tonight at Tulane’s McAlister Auditorium. PostSecret Founder Frank Warren presents a multimedia program followed by a book signing. Info here.

Friday, Sept. 6

Former Saint and veritable hero Steve Gleason loves music, and the annual Gleason Gras features performances by Galactic, Anders Osborne, John Micheal Rouchell and other local rockers. Admission for the event benefiting the Louisiana Hospitality Foundation’s ALS awareness efforts and the Gleason Family Trust is free, but VIP tickets are available. Info here.

 

The fall season of the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission’s free and family-friendly Movies in the Park series kicks off with The Incredibles. Info here.

 

Singer/songwriter Andrew Duhon plays with Sweet Crude – a high-energy super group of young New Orleans musicians – and the folk-rockers Cortland Burke and Associates play at One Eyed Jacks. Info here.

 

Saturday, Sept. 7

Abita Beer sponsors the annual Tails and Ales at the Fair Grounds, but the event coinciding with summer horse races features more than 150 beers from around Louisiana, the country and the world. Info here.

 

Hair growth champion Just For Men hosts its National Beard and Moustache Championships at the House of Blues. The competition honors excellence in facial hair in 18 categories. Info here.
