Small Business Saturday Takes Over Downtown

Black Friday officially heralds the holiday season. Small Business Saturday, however, is on its heels and gaining traction in Acadiana. This weekend, locally owned shops in Lafayette and the surrounding areas will celebrate with special deals and events that make for a unique shopping experience to get you in the spirit. Additional events include outdoor activities for kids and a special styling lesson. Have fun!

11/30: Small Business Saturday: Lafayette’s take on Small Business Saturday entails deals from local businesses, like free bicycle maintenance for life from Hub City Cycles for every bicycle purchased! The nationally recognized holiday occurs the day after Black Friday to encourage local economic growth during the holiday season. More special deals and events to follow downtown!

11/30: Merry and Bright Window Wonderland: Coinciding with Small Business Saturday is this cohesive, festive art installation! The Merry and Bright Window Wonderland will bring holiday cheer to downtown, whose shops will be adorned with works from local artists of diverse backgrounds and myriad levels of experience. The displays will be up through early January and aim to showcase local talent to promote local businesses during holiday shopping. Each display will compete for Best Window Wonderland, which will be decided Dec. 4

11/30: The Grand Noel: The village of Grand Coteau will host its annual Christmas celebration this Saturday from 2-8 p.m. for a day of carolling, carriage rides, storytelling and more old fashioned activities along with pictures with Santa. Local businesses will offer their own unique surprises. Shopping begins at 2 p.m., followed by candlelight carolling at 5 p.m.

11/30: Getting Kids Back to Nature: With kids out of school, now is an ideal time to get them outside! The Arboretum Nature Center at Chicot State Park will host a daylong seminar which includes learning new languages, using math skills, dip netting for aquatic animals and learning about the history of the park while walking its trails. Parents and kids can meet at the Arboretum Nature Center at 2 p.m. The day ends at 8 p.m. For more information, call (337) 363-6289.
