It’s that time of year again; the time when even though Thanksgiving is just around the corner, we start to receive emails reminding us just how few days are left to prepare for Christmas.
Thankfully the frequency of nonprofit events reduces as we get closer to the holidays, though we have holiday parties to fill in those gaps – and boy, do they.
While that’s scary – and trust me, I’m scared that it seems to come faster and faster every year – I have a much more frightening reminder for you: We are exactly 12 weeks from Mardi Gras!
So here’s my tip to you: Plan ahead.
While you’re scurrying from local boutique to local boutique shopping for the perfect present for your nearest and dearest (by the way: Many of our local shops have online portals too!), don’t forget to stock up on Carnival supplies. Think brightly colored wigs, sparkles, shiny eyelashes and light-up rings – remember if they can’t see you, they can’t throw to you.
Also remember to stock up on the basics for the balls and parties you’ll be attending, such as base and/or tinted moisturizer. This isn’t the time to try a crazy new trend; stick to the makeup that you know looks good on you in photos and will last the night. You don’t want to be without your favorite eyeliner or lip gloss when you’re rushed to get out the door.
The Mardi Gras season is also famous for being the time that you’ll “see people you haven’t seen in years with no warning,” otherwise known as “being at a parade.” With that in mind, stock up on layer-able basics that show off your figure, such as tights with legwarmers and boots or thin shirts with different length sleeves, a light hoodie and a warmer jacket. You never know what the weather will be like at a parade – even if the day starts out warm, it might drop 30 degrees and you don’t want to have to give up your spot that has access to a bathroom and a bar.
