Dinner and a Show

Date night is crucial whether you’re planning your wedding or have been married for 20 years. Instead of the typical date night routine, put pep in your date night step with a selection from Broadway in New Orleans’ 2019-2020 season lineup.

Announced on Jan. 22, the new season includes three Broadway shows touring for the first time since debuting in New York – “Dear Evan Hanson,” “Mean Girls” and “Anastasia.” “Dear Evan Hanson” is a six-time Tony Award winner including 2017’s Best Musical winner that the New York Times called “a gut-punching, breathtaking knockout of a musical.” This production is heavy in the content that they cover, and not what you would call romantic, but perfect for any Broadway lover looking to see an incredible production.

“Mean Girls” is sure to be a hit with anyone who remembers, and loves, the film. Tina Fey brought her movie to life with this adaptation and it promises to bring theatergoers a night of laughs.

Romance is the name of the game with “Anastasia,” which brings the allure of Paris in the ‘20s to the stage. Based on the animated movie, and brought to life by Tony Award-winning creators, this story of love and perseverance will dazzle any date night.

In addition to these new and critically-acclaimed productions, the lineup adds crowd favorites including “Wicked,” “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Miss Saigon,” as well as lighter productions like “A Christmas Story, The Musical” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

Broadway plays may not be every couple’s cup of tea (Melanie here: Not my cup of tea. Sorry, Kelly!); however, this new lineup offers a little something for everyone.

We suggest grabbing drinks – and,or dinner – before the show at one of the eateries near the theater. Consider Madame’s Modern Kitchen in the hotel B on Canal, which is the closest option. Effervescence and Meauxbar are both located on North Rampart and are close enough if you don’t mind walking. The Sazarac Bar in The Roosevelt Hotel, NOPSI Hotel and Victory Bar are a little farther, but worth it if parking multiple times or rideshare is your thing.
