A proud graduate of the New Orleans public school system, Dr. Calvin Mackie has led a prestigious academic and professional career as a husband, father, former Tulane Engineering professor, award-winning mentor, inventor, author, entrepreneur, and recipient of four science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) degrees. In 2013, Dr. Mackie founded STEM NOLA, a nonprofit organization created to expose students to the wonders of STEM education and, in partnership with Ochsner, will soon be opening a 30,000-square-foot facility in New Orleans East. Dr. Mackie hopes this facility will be a clubhouse for all students in the city and help them feel validated, nurtured, and empowered to build a sustainable community of science and fellowship, leading to STEM careers.
