DIVA DAYS
Earlier this year Seth Rudetsky, the chatty host of SiriusXM Radio’s “Seth’s Big Fat Broadway,” hosted the “Broadway at NOCCA” series that brought such divas as Patti LuPone, Sutton Foster, Megan Mullally, Audra McDonald and Megan Hilty to the performing arts school for concerts and live interviews – sort of like a more gossipy version of “Inside the Actors Studio.” Last month the series returned with “30 Rock” star Jane Krakowski, and LuPone takes the NOCCA stage again on Nov. 16. The Tony Award-winner starred in original productions of Evita and Les Miserables, and in revivals of Gypsy and Sweeney Todd, and she appears in the New Orleans-themed and shot “American Horror Story: Coven.” The rest of the series features Charles Busch, Christine Ebersole and Foster. On the Fringe
Mainstream theater options abound these days in New Orleans, with a recent crop of beloved theaters resurrecting. But during the New Orleans Fringe Festival, Nov. 20-24, you’ll find theater in stranger places: backyards, deconsecrated churches, living rooms and the back room of a karaoke bar. The annual celebration of avant-garde theater – which also has shows at more traditional venues, mostly in the Marigny/St. Claude area – includes 77 shows in everything from dance to puppetry, as well as a parade, a yard art tour and family-friendly fare. A “Free-For-All” area features free activities and shows. Information, NoFringe.org
