It's officially holiday season in the Big Easy and the amount of festivities happening around the city are endless. From caroling to pictures with Santa, this week, the editors are sharing their favorite things to do around the city during the holiday season.
Light Display
A new fun tradition we enjoy is the Greenway Supernova light display. It’s presented by the Friends of the Lafitte Greenway and it features a cool light art experience, plus a holiday market and food trucks. I like to grab a hot toddy to-go and take a luminous stroll. - Ashley McLellan, Editor | New Orleans Magazine
Algiers Point and Santa
We go caroling with neighbors in Algiers Point! We also of course take the kids to get hot chocolate with Santa at the Roosevelt. - Drew Hawkins, Research Database Coordinator
Looking at the Lights
The lights at The Roosevelt and a stroll or bike tour through Christmas in the Oaks. And I’ve always enjoyed seeing friends from near and far come together a few days before Christmas at House of Blues for Home for the Holidays, which features some of our town’s most incredible musicians each year. - Andy Myer, Editor | St. Charles Avenue
Caroling
Each year, my family loves to go to Caroling in Jackson Square. It's really fun, and very festive, to stand around singing Christmas carols with what feels like the whole city. Add in the candle they give you and light, it's a magical scene. It's also topped off with a stop at Cafe du Monde. Delish! - Kelly Massicot, Digital Editor
Mall Santa
When my kids were little, we would always take the classic Santa photo at Lakeside on Christmas eve morning. We'd start by eating beignets and cafe au lait at Cafe du Monde, then shop for last-minute gifts. Now that they're older, we've switched to the same routine on Magazine Street. Beignets from the Vintage. It's also common for us to make a trek down to the Roosevelt Lobby. - Rich Collins, News Editor BizNewOrleans.com
French Quarter
On Christmas Day after slow morning at home, we do a ramble with friends to view the French Quarter homes and businesses decked out for the holidays. We start by popping into the Roosevelt for the Winter Wonderland and to have a drink at the Sazarac Bar, then make our way to the Quarter for a day of bar hopping and casual revelry. - Melanie Warner Spencer, Editor | New Orleans Bride/New Orleans Homes
Parading
We do the holiday parade every year. I’m particularly excited to be participating this year with my fellow Dolly Parton wannabes in the Krewe of Dolly! So. Many. Sequins. On Christmas Eve, our family tradition is to hit up Waffle House and then bundle up and throw on tacky holiday hats and head to the bonfires on the levee. - Kim Singletary, Editor | Biz New Orleans
