NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The Junior Executive Board of the American Cancer Society announced the return of New Orleans’ party for a purpose, American Cancer Society Shuck Cancer presented by LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center. Shuck Cancer will take place on Thursday, Nov. 21, at Champions Square from 7-10 p.m., with an exclusive Patron party happening from 6-7 p.m. The event will again showcase oyster varieties from across the country, as well as wine parings from 20 vineyards, non-oyster cuisine from 30 different restaurants, local brews, a silent auction and live music featuring Blue Earth artists.
“It’s so important to me that I use my platform to continue raising awareness and critical funds needed to fight cancer,” said Shuck co-founder and partner John Michael Rowland. “We have been impacted by cancer in some way and if you haven’t, you will be, if we don’t do what we can now. I’m thrilled to continue my partnership with the American Cancer Society for the now 7th year of this incredible fundraising event that continues to impact so many lives.”
Since it’s start in 2018, American Cancer Society Shuck Cancer New Orleans has raised over $2.8M, thanks in part to honorary “shuckers” that commit to raising a minimum of $5,000 each for the American Cancer Society, as well through generous sponsorships from companies and organizations like presenting sponsor, LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center and charbroiled sponsors Gibbs Construction, Adams and Reese, Butler Holding Co, Carriere Stumm LLC and CIS Industries, First Horizon, Louisiana Healthcare Connections, LCMC Health and Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center and Van Horn Design to name a few. A full list of this year’s sponsors and honorary “shuckers” can be found at shuckcancer.org.
“Our support of Shuck Cancer underscores the vital role of community collaborations in enhancing access to medical care for everyone throughout Louisiana,” said Dr. Joe W. Ramos. “The LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center’s more-than-medicine approach to cancer care also provides resources to navigate other challenges like affording treatment, ensuring patients have access to healthy, nutritious food, and utilizing resources for emotional support.”
Funds raised from the event will benefit the Louisiana Access To Care Grant Program, benefiting the transportation & lodging assistance to cancer patients receiving treatment in area health systems. These grants make a direct impact on individuals in Louisiana who are battling cancer by providing them with much-needed transportation to treatment at no cost to them.
