A Ball and All

Thursday, March 22, marked the 18th annual “Ball in the City” at Harrah’s New Orleans Casino. Guests gathered in their “after-five attire” to support the United Negro College Fund. Mr. and Mrs. Alden J. McDonald Jr. of Liberty Bank and Trust Company; Mayor and Mrs. Mitchell J. Landrieu of the City of New Orleans; Dr. and Mrs. Norman C. Francis of Xavier University of Louisiana; Dr. and Mr. James E. Lyons of Dillard University; and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Real of Harrah’s New Orleans Casino and Hotel collaborated in chairing this year’s charitable event.

The ball began with a patron party at 7 p.m. that featured entertainment by recording artists B.R.W. Following at 9 p.m. was a concert showcasing Regina Belle, Howard Hewett and Chris Walker at The Theatre in Harrah’s New Orleans Casino.

A variety of donation levels, ranging from the $300 Honor Student level to $25,000 President Presenting level, were available for supporters to choose from. “Ball in the City” has raised over $2 million dollars since its 1994 inception. The United Negro College Fund provides the opportunity for students from low-income families to go to college by giving out 10,000 scholarships every year.
