A Blooming Tradition

On October 5, patrons of Longue Vue House and Gardens gathered for the presentation of the very first Edith Stern Award at the Edith Stern Award Luncheon. This honor is named for the generous Edith Stern, the original homeowner of Longue Vue. The award ceremony marked the beginning of a new tradition that will take place each fall.

Ornate table settings of dazzling crystal, china and linens along with elegant bouquets arranged in the main house at Longue Vue welcomed about 90 guests to the celebration. The inaugural recipient of the award was Genevieve Trimble, who has dedicated much of her life to the horticultural arts.

Trimble has been volunteering at Longue Vue and other New Orleans public gardens for years. One of her biggest contributions to the horticultural world has been her work at Afton Villa Gardens in St. Francisville, La., which she and her husband rescued from abandonment. Longue Vue isn’t the only organization to recognize Trimble’s greatness. Her garden journals can be found at the Tulane Garden Library, LSU and the Smithsonian.

Through her dedication, Trimble has set an inspiring bar for horticulture enthusiasts near and far.
