With two-time, Grammy-award winning Peabo Bryson as the event’s headline entertainment, the 2005 Liberty Bank “Ball on the Belle,” an annual fund-raiser for the United Negro College Fund, proved to be a joyous soirée. Held Jan. 14 on Bally’s Casino riverboat “Belle,” hosts Alden and Rhesa McDonald planned a jam-packed evening. The entertainment also included music from Philip Manuel and his group, Capt. Charles as the night’s DJ, and a fashion show presented by Private Collections Boutique/Roz Kay. Bally’s went all out with the food and drink, with seafood stations and more.
This year’s ball raised $130,000 for the UNCF, which for the past 61 years has been the nation’s oldest, largest and most successful and comprehensive minority higher education assistance organization. •
