Alexis Hocevar, philanthropist, entrepreneur, volunteer and recently retired Vice President/General Manager of Enterprise Holdings Inc., was honored as the 2016 recipient of Alexis de Tocqueville Award in a November 2 ceremony at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. The United Way of Southeast Louisiana’s highest award for exemplary leadership in volunteerism and philanthropy was presented to Hocevar for his leadership in the transportation industry and support of several nonprofits.
The event featured a classic New Orleans party atmosphere with festive décor, colorful fall florals by Perfect Presentations Floral & Event Designs and music by the Nayo Jones Experience. An umbrella-twirling Hocevar led the lively group in a second-line into dinner.
After a list of Hocevar’s accomplishments were read to the crowd, the question was asked “Has he ever been honored for all his good work for United Way?” Immediately Nayo Jones began singing “At Last” with vocals created specifically for Hocevar, which received thunderous applause and laughter.
After receiving the award, Hocevar thanked United Way, the Tocqueville Society and his wife Debbie and their children. Hocevar was joined on stage by former Tocqueville Award recipients including: Bob Merrick, David Fennelly, Carol Wise, Kim Sport, Frank Stewart and Florence Schornstein.
It is United Way’s goal to eradicate poverty in Southeast Louisiana.
