Celebrating 70 years of philanthropic work for disadvantaged citizens across the nation, the Urban League of Greater New Orleans held its annual gala Saturday, June 12. Festivities included a Benefactor’s Reception at the Hilton Riverside Hotel’s Grand Ballroom, followed by a gala in the same gorgeous room. Patrons danced the night away to the sounds of Leah Chase, the Ka-Nection Band and the New Orleans Horns, all the while sipping cocktails at the Martini Bar sponsored by Grey Goose and Bombay Sapphire. WDSU’s own Camille Whitworth welcomed guests as the evening’s mistress of ceremonies and introduced the evening’s honoree Don C. Hubbard – a long-time civil rights leader and community activist. Co-chairs of the night were First NBC Bank’s President and CEO Ashton J. Ryan Jr. and the Governmental Affairs Director of BP America Inc., Karl J. Connor. Gala coordinator Cathy Washington was also in attendance, as were the Board of Directors, who include Senior Vice Chairman, John M. Duck of Adams and Reece, LLP; President and CEO, Nolan V. Rollins; and Chairman of the Board Flozell Daniels Jr. of the LA Disaster Recovery Foundation. The evening’s proud sponsors for the fête included BP, the Louisiana Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Chevron and the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation. The evening’s proceeds go toward furthering the nonprofit’s mission of eliminating racial discrimination and achieving equal opportunity for all through education and youth development.
