A Day in the Life

Hi, my name is Ruby, and I am 13 and in seventh grade. I’m sure we can all agree that this whole coronavirus thing has been really stressful. From a kid’s perspective it is very difficult. The part I dislike the most is that I have no control over this situation. I don’t know when this is going to end, and I miss my old routine.

My school has online classes, as I think every school should right now. Online classes aren’t my favorite, though. Sometimes I have multiple classes at once, which is hard because I have to leave and miss learning in another class. I made a schedule, but certain classes take more time than the schedule I made gives them. I’m trying my best to handle everything. Right now I really don’t have much to do other than school, so that isn’t a problem.

I wake up at 6 a.m., call my friend at 7 to wake her up (she doesn’t have an alarm), eat breakfast at 7:30 and get ready for online school. I start English at 8 a.m., I do history at 9, I have to start online science at 9:30, and I work on math after science. Then I eat lunch at 11:30 to 12:30 and have French, English, and history after that. Every other day, I have Latin, too. I walk my dog at 2:30 p.m. and finish all of schoolwork by 4 to 7 p.m. And then I do … nothing. I watch YouTube. I message my friends. I look at Instagram.

I’m really hoping this is over soon. I want to go back to school. I never thought I would say that. I’ve been calling my friends a whole lot so I’m not lonely. I’ve also been listening to lots of music. If you find yourself getting bored remember you can’t run out of things to do even if it feels like it. I recommend making a playlist of your favorite songs and having a dance party, calling someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, reorganizing something, or playing a board game.

Just remember that you will get through this. No matter how hard it gets, I promise that you will get through it. Stay home and save lives!
