At times, it can be difficult to get into the Christmas spirit, especially when it’s still upwards of 85 degrees and sunny some days… – after growing up in New England, this is something I have a hard time getting past. But, if you’re looking for some holiday fun for you and your family, New Orleans has plenty to offer to put some cheer in your cup.
If you’re one of those families that gets their decorations out the day after Thanksgiving (or before), round out the first weekend of holiday fun with The New Orleans Theatre Association’s premier of “Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical,” at the Saenger Theatre. The show runs from Tues., Nov. 22 – Sun., Nov. 27, with both evening and matinee performances.
Praised by the New York Times as “100 times better than any bedtime story,” the play is sure to please both kids and adults. “The Grinch” is a part of the 2016 – 2017 season of East Jefferson Hospital Broadway in New Orleans.
The sets and costumes, designed by John Lee Beatty and Robert Morgan, respectively, are inspired by the original 1956 book written by Seuss, so magic and whimsy are guaranteed. “The Grinch” is based off both the book and the 1966 animated classic, so don’t go expecting a Jim Carrey-esqe Grinch. However, beloved songs like “You’re a Mean one Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas” are included in the production, so don’t you worry – you’ll still have them stuck in your head for weeks, just like you used to.
This year is a special one for the play as is marks both the 10th anniversary of the show’s debut and the 50th anniversary original broadcast of the animated movie. Tickets start at $26.25 and can be purchased here.
