A Local Florist is Redesigning a Favorite Uptown Gift Shop

As an Uptown New Orleans native, Judy has always been part of my life. Aspirational yet approachable, whimsical yet wonderfully useful, it’s the kind of shop that’s always there when you need it. Can’t find a birthday present for mom? Need a wedding gift for a friend? Judy has you covered. Now, under new ownership, the shop is poised to kill even more birds with one stone. Longtime florist and new owner, Pamela Georges has reimagined the shop through her chic, worldly lens bringing her stunning pameladennis arrangements into the mix alongside the wedding registry staples and gifts customers have come to rely on for years.

I asked Pamela, her floral shop previously adjacent to Judy at The Rink, why now? Why take on more? “Years ago, I ran Uptown Flowers but then paused to be home with my kids,” she shared. “I didn’t miss a game or tournament. While I feel so fortunate for that time, after opening pameladennis in 2023, I realized I finally had more time and brain space to dedicate to the business. She adds, “I’d been thinking about the Judy space for years and when Martha Claire, the prior owner, was ready to sell and spend more time with her family in Houston, I knew it was time.” It was no doubt a good business decision. As Pamela put it, “It’s just such a seamless merge. Gifts, bridal registry, flowers all in one spot. Done, done and done!”

Now, how will she make it her own? A myriad of ways. “Visually, we’ve repainted the space and are changing the layout,” she explained. “The bridal registry will remain in the same room, but the entrance will now include my workstation, with gift items and fresh flowers scattered throughout.” Georges intends the store to be deliberately more floral forward, meaning an uptick in vases, pots, vessels, etc. for sale. What she’ll move away from is knick knack small items and children’s fare. However, rest assured that the shop will still carry local makers like Ridge Walker, Ella Bartlow, Alexa Pulitzer, Laura McLendon, Fifi Laughlin and registry staples like Annie Glass, Vietri, Juliska and Simon Pearce.

INKA

Peruvian food fits snugly amongst the cultural mosaic of New Orleans, making it the perfect home for the author-driven restaurant concept, INKA.

A bevy of new brands will be sprinkled in to reflect Georges’ particular aesthetic. For example, registry items by Ginori and Hering will be incorporated into the existing catalog. Additionally, luxury candle brands Baobab and LAFCO will debut on the floor along with plenty of Greek-centric products like Georges’ family brand of olive oil. Gift baskets will also be on offer with a curated assortment of flowers and gifts from the store.

Helping Georges through the transition are Leslie Massony, her longtime collaborator and business partner since the Uptown Flowers days, along with the pameladennis floral team and the familiar faces who transferred over from Judy. In other words, the people who have made both businesses feel like home aren’t going anywhere. With the new combined team in place, Georges is ready and excited for this new, very busy chapter of life.

The shop is taking orders for holiday decorating now.
