The New Year beckons so the big question is how to celebrate the coming of 2019. Naturally, the state that brings you Mardi Gras and 400 festivals a year serves up New Year celebrations with aplomb. Here are a few to choose from:

New Orleans

Live music begins at 9 p.m. for the TV broadcast of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest and the local fun happens in front of the French Quarter’s Jax Brewery. The countdown may begin in New York City, but New Orleans will have its share of big-time entertainers.

The Texas Longhorns meet the Georgia Bulldogs in the 85th annual Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 in the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Festivities include Allstate Fan Fest in the French Quarter on Dec. 30-31 and the Allstate Sugar Bowl New Year’s Eve Parade on Dec. 31.

Across the Lake

Across Lake Pontchartrain on Louisiana’s Northshore, the New Year’s Weekend Celebration with live music and bonfires will be Dec. 28-Jan. 1 at the Hidden Oaks Family Campground in Hammond. On New Year’s Eve, a midnight champagne toast is in order.

Other area campgrounds will be hosting New Year’s activities including Reunion Lake RV Resort in Ponchatoula, Indian Creek Campground in Independence and ATV park Tower Trax Recreation Park in Fluker.

Baton Rouge

Lafayette

Naturally Cajun Country’s hub city rings in the New Year with zydeco music and dancing. Grammy-nominated Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie brings down the house Dec. 31 at Vermilionville’s performance center. All kinds of music happen downtown at Warehouse 535, the new Rock ’n’ Bowl and the Blue Moon Saloon, to name a few. For the kids, there’s the New Year’s Noon Carnival & Countdown at the Children’s Museum of Acadiana.

Monroe-West Monroe

The black-tie New Year’s Eve Fundraiser on the Terrace in Monroe raises money for Ouachita Parish families in need and includes live music, appetizers and cocktails.

Shreveport-Bossier City

Great Raft Brewing starts off the fun with live music, fireworks and craft beer with the Last Beer of the Year celebration Dec. 29. Then on New Year’s Eve casinos and music venues around town get in the act, including Havana Nights New Year’s Eve Party at Margaritaville Resort Casino in Bossier City, Rock the Clock New Year’s Eve Celebration at 421 Texas, a Great Gatsby-themed New Year’s Eve party at Noble Savage Tavern and Rockin’ Dopsie and the Zydeco Twisters at Sam’s Town Hotel & Casino.
