A Note from Bev

We are so excited about bringing you the New St. Charles Avenue – a new look, a new size and design, but the same celebration of community leaders who are making such a difference in our city! Society, Celebration and Style is what we bring to New Orleans!

On January 8, we’ll introduce the new Avenue to you at our benefit for the New Orleans Public Library Foundation! Our cover features Leah Engelhardt, president of the Junior League of New Orleans and Ina Davis, president of the National Council of Jewish Women, both of whom are lending their support of literacy in New Orleans! Thanks to them and to Irvin Mayfield, chairman of the board of the New Orleans Public Library and vice chairman of the NOPL Foundation and Jeremy Davenport,  musician extraordinaire!

Please join us on January 8, at the French Quarter Bar at the Ritz Carlton Hotel from 6-8 p.m. to support our local libraries. Tickets are only $20 a person (which also enters you in a raffle) with all proceeds going to the NOPL Foundation. Both Irvin Mayfield and Jeremy Davenport will be playing, hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be provided and Mayfield wants us all to have library cards – you’ll be able to sign up for one at the event! You will also have a chance to win great raffle items from our favorite advertisers.

Call Kristi Ferrante at 830-7264 or e-mail rsvp@renpubllc.com, to save
a space for you!

Turn to Skin Deep for a makeover of one of our favorite gals-about-town by a makeup artist to the stars, and don’t miss What’s Hot for 2009, this month highlighting transitional pieces that will take you from winter through Mardi Gras! Also, whether you’re looking to shed some of those holiday calories or just pamper yourself, we’ve put together features on both!

My column features a fabulous party at Jimmy and Minnie Coleman’s for the great grandson of Sir Winston Churchill! Their fabulous personal chef Michael Saxer created the dinner and you’ll want to get his new book Cooking with A Private Chef from New Orleans to Newport.

I just left About Face in Metairie (they have another location in Mandeville) and was really impressed. About Face is a small makeup and skin care boutique that prides itself on personal service. They carry Bare Minerals, Smashbox, Kinerase and a wide variety of makeup and skin care products. In addition, they host events, have classes on makeup applications and consultations and even facial waxing at the Metairie store.

After you get your new makeup, be sure to go to The SweetArts Ball, Friday, January 16, which is the annual benefit for the CAC – but this year it’s also the closing party for Prospect.1. The theme is “An International Tryst.” Chairing
the event are Judith Oudt, Jim Mounger, Sidonie Villere and Jonathan Ferrara. The honorees are those who have had a major impact on our local art’s scene: Pam Breaux, Jacquee Carvin, Rick Gruber, Patrick K. Lee Aimee Smallwood, John Snyder and Steve Perry! You only have until the January 18 to see Prospect.1 – don’t miss out!

Have a great New Year and I’ll see you at the party on January 8!
