A note from Bev

We are all thrilled about our cover for the LA/SPCA’s Howling Success 2009, “Hooray for Howlywood.” Thanks so much to D. Paul Spencer and J. Coller Ochsner M.D. two major sponsors, CEO Ana Zorilla, Celebrity Restaurateur of Howling Success Joel Dondis and, of course, dogies Pudin and Buddy Young. They all want us to show our glam on November 14, and walk the red carpet at the romantic Southern setting of the new Mardi Gras World on the East Bank. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite Hollywood character and dance to the sounds of Johnny Angel and DJ Damion Yancy. The patron party starts at 7 p.m. with a VIP performance by Johnny Angel, specialty cocktails and hors d’oeuvres; the gala starts at 8:30 p.m. All of you animal lovers call 762-3322 for tickets! You don’t want to miss this and you’ll be helping an organization that has been caring for our animals since 1888.

Speaking of Mardi Gras World, check out my entertaining column where I show you how to wow your friends by taking them on a fabulous float – not at Mardi Gras – and serve a seated dinner party at Mardi Gras World!

With all of the parties coming up, you’ll want to check out Grand Rental Station, locally owned by Wiggins and Richard Edrington Jr. They have an extensive online catalogue that can be accessed by visiting www.grandrentalnola.com. If you don’t find what you need, just call them at 483-7713; they have access to a huge selection of equipment and supplies from top manufacturers. They will have a new building soon, but for now you can visit them at 2501 Tchoupitoulas St.

I know that many of you went to St. George’s 40th anniversary party on Sunday, October 25, and had a ball. They want you to keep in touch with their incredible school. There will be more get-togethers at Rock ‘n’ Bowl where you can get in touch with alumnae and friends all through the year. Please register on the Web site or e-mail Christine Perrin at christine@stgeorges.k12.la.us or call 891-5509 ext. 601.

Mt. Carmel is having a special event on Sunday, November 22, at 2 p.m. where I’ll be giving you lots of holiday entertaining tips – and it’s only $10 a person. They want all of the parents to come out and have a great time and bring your friends! Call the school at 288-7626 for tickets.

A new friend, Bob Hinckley, has written an exquisite book: William Woodward – American Impressionist. It will be available at NOMA, The Historic N.O. Collection and local bookstores just in time for Holiday giving, so get your copy today!

I want to correct an error we made in writing the beautiful story about Zully Jimenez. Of course all of you know that she worked with District Attorney Harry Connick Sr., not Harry Lee. Harry Connick is alive and well and we are sorry for the mistake!

Now that Halloween is over, get ready for Thanksgiving. Please don’t forget Second Harvest Food Bank and the effort that Macy’s is making in our community. Have a dinner party and ask each of your guests to donate to the food bank! We are a city in great need. You may also want to give to The Archbishop’s Community Appeal or to United Way, or any other charity that helps our great city!
