A note from Bev

We are thrilled to feature Soul Revival 2010 on the cover this month even though the party is on March 27; we’re just getting you ready for a great event a little early! Soul Revival was started in 1999 by David Voelker to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation through a fundraiser. It has become the biggest fundraiser for the Legacy Donor Foundation and it’s always a magical evening – this year featuring the tropics. Thanks to our cover models: Shelby Westfeldt, Caroline Milling and Mary Margaret Brewer who’ve promised you an inspiring gospel choir, Shades of Praise. The Revival Revelers will dance the night away to Atlanta Sound. The tropical feast will be provided by the Hilton Hotel and delectable sweets by Sucré. Thanks also to Judge Tony Russo who generously donated the use of his vintage car for the photo and for the event! Hope to see you at Tropical Revival of the Soul in March!

January is a perfect month to enjoy some downtime with your friends, so check out my column featuring Nina Friend and the elegant way she entertains. She shares a great idea for a Saints party that you don’t want to miss!

The most exciting gift we have for you is a new column by Francine Davis Ballard, who has worked at Lucky and InStyle magazines. It is called Personal Stylist and every other month Francine will give you an easy way to update your look with the latest styles. This month she chose Deidre Hooper as her fabulous model to show you her instructive ideas. Once you get the latest, go to all of our local stores to pull off your new look!

There is no better place to go accomplish your new look than Chatta Box. They have been dressing the most stylish women in town and it all started with Brenda Romair; now the second generation is carrying on her tradition! Rebecca Nordgren is managing the Veterans Boulevard store and Monette Millet is running the Baton Rouge store located at 17650 Highland Road. Whichever store you visit, you’ll find everything from jeans to formalwear. I always find the best belts, jewelry, shoes and suits. They have all of the best designers – Lafayette 148, Trina Turk, Tadashi and more – but it’s their “eye” in picking out the styles that we want to wear for which they’re known. They are so unique!

St. Anna’s Residence has just completed their most extensive renovation in 50 years. This wonderful nonprofit nursing home has just completed all three levels of the 1850s Prytania Street wing, giving greater functionality and updated interiors while keeping their signature ambience and charm. They are renewing the Friends of St. Anna’s to allow their devotees to be more action oriented. To support St. Anna’s call 523-3466 or visit www.stannas.com.

Check out our Registry of Charitable Events for January through April and support our local charities; don’t forget that your time is the most valuable gift you can give!
