We are so Proud to present our December issue, highlighting “Home for the Holidays,” which benefits The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and the Daniel Price Memorial Fund for Aspiring Artists. For all of you who knew Daniel, and his love for art and music, you know how fitting it is that the fund in his name gives scholarships for outstanding visual arts and music students at NOCCA. Daniel’s family, The NOCCA Institute and The House of Blues invite you to an action-packed night of music and food at The House of Blues, 225 Decatur St., on December 23 from 7:30 p.m. until midnight. Thanks so much to Steve and Christopher Price and Sally Perry, as well Trombone Shorty, John Boutte and Kermit Ruffins, who will be entertaining that night, for being on our cover. As a patron, you get early admission (6 p.m.) and, for only $125 a person, a buffet dinner, open bar and silent auction.

There are so many wonderful seasonal displays and concerts going on – you don’t want to miss Celebration in the Oaks at City Park or singing in Jackson Square, midnight Mass at Holy Name or St. Louis Cathedral or, if you’re so inclined, Lighting the Way for Pa Pa Noel in Grammercy.
We also have the Delta Festival Ballet, which presents its 29th annual production of the Nutcracker, with a cast of more than 150 dancers – including acclaimed guest dancers Joseph Phillips, soloist with the American Ballet Theatre, and Ana Sopia Scheller, soloist with the New York City Ballet – and lavishly designed costumes and sets.
Performances are December 4-5 at the Northshore Harber Center in Slidell, and December 18-19 at Dixon Hall.

You won’t want to miss the Downtown Development District’s third-annual “Canal Street: Home for the Holidays” celebration. This year’s events will include a “Holiday Movie on the Mississippi” at Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza on December 3; the “Krewe of Jingle Parade” and “Jingle Mingle Block Party” on Saturday, December 4; and the first-ever Reindeer Run & Romp on Saturday, December 11, at the Audubon Aquarium – all events are free and open to the public! There is even a Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair December 9 and 10, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Place St. Charles (201 St. Charles Ave., 524-4444). More than 30 booths will be filled with unique, local, handmade items, including glass ornaments and vases, colorful New Orleans-themed paintings and photographs, clay and ceramic pieces, wooden sculptures and lots of jewelry.
There are some fabulous new books that will make great holiday presents! Former New Orleanian, and my friend, Suzanne Rheinstein, has written a gorgeous book, At Home: A Style for Today with Things from the Past. Tim Rice has written an incredible tale: Broke in a Tangle: Legends of Losers – A Lifetime of Turf Memories. Both are available at the Garden District Book Shop.
