A Note from Bev

What a treat for us to feature the Hermann-Grima/Gallier Historic Houses and their incredible Annual Fall Gala Thursday, November 13. Thanks to our cover models, co-chairs Joyce Pulitzer and Kristen Dry, hosts Mary and Bill Hines and director Mamie Gasperecz. This sumptuous event honors the members of the Historic Houses Society, a group of the most dedicated donors who have given at least $1,000 to the organization, and will feature cocktails and dinner by Bacco, Red Fish Grill and Ralph’s on the Park! It is not too late to become a valued member and support two of the most historic properties in New Orleans at one of the most beautiful parties in the city.

We are also excited to bring you our Volunteer Activists – and what a group it is this year! We are honoring Bob Brown, Ruthie Frierson and Citizens For 1 Greater New Orleans, Anne Milling and The Women of the Storm, R. King Milling, and our unsung hero: Andre M. Perry. Read all about their incredible spirit and contributions to our great city.

Look for my Entertaining segment on WWL-TV in the 8:15 a.m. hour on Mondays in November. I will be giving you easy and affordable ideas for your next party. Also, I’ve got great ideas for you on my website www.beverlychurch.com. Speaking of that, check out my entertaining column this month that features a
get-together for family and friends using things you already have around the house!

Even with all of the uncertainty in the economy, we must be positive and know that it will turn around. Support your favorite local stores and discover new jewels in our Holiday Fashion feature, in What’s Hot for home furnishings and Fall Dining special section. Americans are strong and resilient and we will make it through this!
Keeping in touch with friends has always been important, and now Children’s Hospital offers the community holiday cards designed by patients. The cards provide a unique way to send seasonal greetings to family, friends and business associates, while contributing to the wellness of New Orleans children throughout the year. Ten cards and envelopes may be purchased for $12 online at www.chnola.org, by phone at 896-9373 and at retail locations throughout the metropolitan area. Custom imprinting is also available by December 1, with a 100 minimum card order.

If your family is like mine, nothing is good enough for our dogs! Au Pair des Chiens [New Orleans Dog Nanny] has come up with the place for your favorite puppy. Doggie daycare and boarding is so important now that we’re all busy. The doggies are temperate tested first and then get to be in playrooms, outdoor play areas, splashing pools, beds that look like hammocks – they even have trainers. Anne Marie Hesson says that they spoil your dog the way you do! Be sure to check it out – call Ann Marie at 528-3747.

I want to urge you to go experience Prospect.1 New Orleans, the fabulous art Biennial brought to us by Dan Cameron. People from all over the world will be here and we all can be ambassadors for our fabulous city!
