A Note from Bev

The Idea Village has gained national recognition, and we are so pleased to feature this entrepreneurial creator on our August cover! Thanks to co-founder and CEO of The Idea Village Tim Williamson; chairman of the board Bill Hines; vice-chair of the board David Darragh; co-founder of Cordina Frozen Cocktails Craig Cordes; and Jess Bialecki, co-founder and CEO of Classroom Blueprint. Idea Village is the number No. 1 in creating entrepreneurs in the nation. Wow!

Starting last month, they launched the 2013 Entrepreneur Season that connects a collaborative network of local and national partners to identify, support and celebrate local start-ups. If you want to join their initiative, you can become a Friend of The Idea Village for $500. Look for their early October event at Manning’s and, as a VIP, you’ll be invited to four events between October and March 2013. They expect an explosive year and, with your help, they can continue the collaboration and engagement that will sustain this powerful entrepreneurial movement! Please contact Megan Barry at Megan@IdeaVillage.org for more information.

My entertaining column this month is a party that David and Lynne Gibbons had during and after Carrollton Boosters Baseball. Beau is on the Cowboys team, and the Gibbons all had the Cowboy spirit with T-shirts, caps and color! Check out What’s Hot in Sports and Spirit for how to show your support for your favorite teams with fabulous items.

We are excited to present our ninth annual Wedding Feature with seven amazing weddings! You will get great ideas from each one, and I especially loved Amanda Hester’s rehearsal dinner at Rock ‘n’ Bowl!

We all love shopping on Metairie Road, and our special section this month spotlights everything from antiques to intimates.
This year the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra celebrates its 10th anniversary. Led by Artistic Director Irvin Mayfield, “The NOJO 10” will commemorate its milestone birthday by showcasing 10 signature jazz events around the city throughout the fall. Individual and season tickets can be purchased at TheNOJO.com.

On Saturday, August 25, step right up to the “Greatest Show in NOLA” as the Louisiana Children’s Museum celebrates its annual “CHAIRish the Children Auction Gala” with title sponsor Capital One Bank. The museum will be transformed into a classic carnival with live entertainment; live and silent auctions; and food and spirits from some of the area’s best restaurants. All proceeds will go toward exhibits and educational programs for the museum, so visit LCM.org for more information and to purchase your tickets today.

As a closing note, we are so sad that The Times-Picayune will no longer be a daily newspaper in our great city! What a loss to our community!
