A Note from Bev

This is our favorite time of the year because we get to spotlight the activists who are making our city shine with all of the effort that these New Orleanians put into their favorite nonprofits! We are so grateful to this year’s cover models: Herschel Abbott, Scott Cowen, Dana Hansel, Betsy Nalty, Dottie Reese and Greg Rusovich. They will be honored at a special party given by iBERIABANK in early December. All will receive our St. Charles Avenue Activist Flags, and I urge all of our former activists to fly your flags during the month of December! We hope this will inspire more people to become active in the causes that make our city the best place in the world to live and work. Please read about all of their many accomplishments, starting on page 41.

Because it’s holiday time, I decided to spotlight two events taking place in December: Richard McCarthy is beginning a new fundraiser for the Crescent City Farmers Market, and you definitely want to be a part of this online auction. Also, all of us who knew Daniel Price are so grateful to Cathy and Steve Price for creating the fundraiser benefitting NOCCA in his honor. See above for details on both events.
Be sure to check out all of our features, but What’s Hot features jewelry this month – a great time to see what’s available in all different price ranges to surprise the “love of your life!”

Another fabulous place to find surprises for everyone on your list is Rivers Spencer Interiors at 4610 Magazine St. Rivers has curated a fabulous collection of home furnishings with a unique mix of French, Swedish and Italian antiques. They have name-brand antique reproductions and select modern pieces, original oil paintings, lighting accessories, gifts and interior design services. Her private label custom upholstery is so popular! They also just got a new shipment of holiday candles, so go check it out today.

I just went in to see Robbie Allen, who owns Baby Bump Maternity (2917 Magazine St., Suite 102, 304-2737, NolaBabyBump.com), and they have a fabulous maternity boutique! They are carrying Robbie’s own line JAME, as well as jeans for moms-to-be by Citizens, J Brand, Paige Denim, and they have the exclusive line Rosie Pope. You can only get the Rosie Pope line in New York – of course you’d rather get it right here in New Orleans. Allen tells me that they will open a new store in Baton Rouge in 2013 and both stores will be called Baby Bump and Children, where they’ll be carrying children’s clothing newborn to 4 T as well as all of your other favorites.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday and New Year’s Eve! And get ready for Mardi Gras and the Super Bowl – hope the Saints are in it again!
