A Note from Bev

We are so excited to feature our favorite Saint, Archie Manning, who will be the eighth recipient of the Pat Summerall Award. He will receive this honor at the Legends for Charity® Dinner on Thursday, January 31, at the Hyatt Hotel during the Super Bowl XLVII weekend in New Orleans. This event benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, so we’re thrilled to have Anna James, a local patient treated at St. Jude, on the cover as well! Rich Eisen will be the NFL Network Host, and guest speakers will include the amazing Mary Matalin and James Carville. The dinner will celebrate the life and career of Archie Manning, a legendary sports figure who has helped so many causes during his career, but who’s best known in New Orleans as an honorable and giving man – he’s a role model, an incredible father of three boys, and a great husband to Olivia Manning! How appropriate that all proceeds will support the miracles performed daily at St. Jude.

The Summerall Award was created by Cheryl DeLeonardis, President of Ocean 2 Ocean Productions, in 2004 and it has also honored CBS broadcasters James Brown, Greg Gumbel and Jim Nantz; ESPN’s Chris Berman; and NBC’s Cris Collinsworth and Al Michaels. Some of these former honorees will be in attendance at the dinner. There are still tickets available, and of course they want to raise as much as possible for St. Jude, so call (225) 282-3240 or visit LegendsForCharity.com today. We all will want to see Archie Manning honored for all of his accomplishments.

Now that the holidays are over, we all want to get into shape for Mardi Gras, so check out our Health, Beauty and Fitness feature by Judi Russell. What’s Hot this month features everything from luxurious spa treatments to the best dry cleaners, all what’s new for the New Year.

We also have a special advertising section on Assisted Living. Whether we’re ready to choose a place for ourselves or someone in our family, the information will be invaluable.

Great news: We have two new columns for the New Year that you’ll love! Young Bloods is a column by Lindsey Mack, who will be spotlighting young professionals with new nonprofits in our city. This month, check out Dana Reed of Hope Stone Kids of New Orleans who’s making such a difference!

Also, Shop Talk by Mirella Cameran will feature two of New Orleans’ finest retailers chatting about trends and their favorite fashion finds. You don’t want to miss it!

Our favorite Town and Country (1514 St. Charles Ave., 523-7027, TownAndCountryBridal.com) is having their annual January Bridal Sale with all bridal gowns at great discounts. I just went in and they have a fabulous selection of Mardi Gras and formal gowns by designers such as Teri Jon, Montage and Jade Couture. They also carry great dresses for the mother of the bride. You have got to see the selection to believe it!

I just spoke with George “Keys” Izquierdo and he’s back in New Orleans after playing in Europe, South America, Canada and farther afield. He would be great for your next party or social event – he plays a baby grand piano at home but can bring a keyboard complete with microphone and drums with him. He plays everything from Fats Domino to Frank Sinatra. Check out his website, Zymondo.com, or call 733-0490 – he’s great!

Get ready for Mardi Gras and the Super Bowl! We live in a city that celebrates every day and we really know how to do it well. How blessed we are to live in New Orleans!
