A Perfect 10

Family Service honors those making a difference.

The Family Service of Greater New Orleans held its 10 Outstanding Persons Gala on Wednesday, October 21, at the Pavilion of the Two Sisters in City Park to benefit the clients of Family Service and the programs that serve them.

Board member Julia Abadie Nuzum and Special Events and Public Relations Coordinator for Family Service Sheryll Cascio served as co-chairs. WWL-TV News reporter Angela Hill and her husband Dr. Irwin Marcus were honorary chairs for the gala. WWL-TV Health Reporter Meg Farris fulfilled mistress of ceremonies and guest speaker duties.

Chosen for their philanthropic, civic and community service, the Ten Outstanding Persons were: Henry L. and Karen N. Coaxum; Rafael C. Goyeneche III; Jim Letten; Rev. Vien T. Nguyen; Ashton J. Ryan Jr.; Jacqueline L. Sullivan; Jose S. Suquet; Lizette M. Terral; Denise Thornton; and Kathleen Waring.

This gala is the major fundraising event for Family Services, and includes a sit-down dinner during which the presentation of honorees and the bestowing a gift to each of them occurs.

The Last Straws provided the entertainment for the evening. The guests in attendance dined on a salad composed of baby mixed greens with hearts of palm, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese with a raspberry walnut vinaigrette, a breast of chicken with a mushroom demi glaze and white chocolate bread pudding with chocolate ganache.

There was a silent auction, co-chaired by Ranord Darensburg and Coretta Lagarde. Some items auctioned included Tiffany crystal decanters, signed Saints footballs and Hornets basketballs, and many more items.
