For the annual “Jive for Strive” brunch on Dec. 5, event co-chairs Andrea Carter and Mignon Schafer chose the always-delicious Bella Luna restaurant for the afternoon soirée. Each table in this famed restaurant overlooking the Mississippi River featured a signed and numbered “Jazzman” centerpiece. Guests were entertained by the Last Straws and could also take part in the raffle featuring many great prizes. Door prizes were also part of the fun.
Since Strive Inc. was founded, it has afforded opportunities for persons with mental disabilities to grow and develop. The Strive Center, a facility-based program, began its operations with a pilot program in a small rented cottage in 1972 with 14 clients. The Strive Center now operates in a building at 1139 Napoleon Ave. and serves 100 clients in a diversified program of job-related training, facility-based work and supported employment. In addition, Strive Inc. sponsors residential and recreational programs. •
