Active or Indulgent? Five Weekend Activities In Lafayette

 

There are multiple opportunities to engage in a new talent or develop a cherished skill this weekend throughout Lafayette, such as through dance with your daughter, paddleboarding, or developing your poetic prowess. Of course, there are shows to check out and secret dinners to attend as well. Whether you want to be active or indulgent, here are five weekend activities to choose from.

 

6/21: Plie with your Bebe: Bluebirds Ballet Academy will begin a six-week class this Friday with Plie with your Bebe class from 10:30-11:30 a.m. The class invites moms to dance with their child in a creative movement class that intents to make your child’s exposure to dance stress-free and fun! This class is for children ages 1-3. Attendees are asked to wear comfortable clothes and can dance in are feet, dance shoes or socks with grippers. All six classes are $90. The course meets every Friday from June 21-July 26.

6/22: Stand-up Paddleboarding Adventure, Indian Creek: Pack & Paddle will take a crew of adventurers through the mixed pine hardwoods of Alexander State Forest and onto the sandy banks of Indian Creek this Saturday at 7:30 a.m. Paddleboarders can look forward to a strong core workout with a high viewpoint of their natural surroundings. This is a fun way to explore Louisiana waterways! Tickets are available via Fareharbor.com for $59 per person. Ticket price includes a stand-up paddleboard, paddle, lunch and guide. Minimum age for participation is 12.

6/22: Poets in Pursuit of the Image: The Paul and Lulu Hilliard Art Museum will host poet and author Claire L. Martin Saturday from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. for a poetry workshop. Martin will conduct participants in an exercise of creating mindful responses to the works of John F. Simon Jr. Martin aims to teach participants the process of writing with energy and confidence. Attendees will familiarize themselves with Simon’s work the choose one piece about which to write. Enthusiastic novelists and practiced poets alike are invited to attend. Entry is $30 for nonmembers and $25 for members. Participants are asked to reserve their spots 24 hours ahead of the course at Hilliardmuseum.com.

6/22: Catin Collective’s Pride Show: Lafayette’s favorite gay bar, Bolt, will host a varied collection of vendors and musicians Saturday for a pride-centric show! Scenic World, The Petals, Maman, Sirr Hurr and more will perform, and 30 percent of proceeds will go to Acadiana Cares! Vendors will be open for business at 9 p.m., and music starts at 10 p.m. Cover is $10.

6/23: Maison Madeleine Spring Secret Supper Series: Maison Madeleine at Lake Martin continues its secret supper series this Sunday evening with a star-studded ensemble. The recipient of the James Beard Foundation 2018’s Best Chef of the South nominee Manny Augello of Bread & Circus will create exclusive menu items to enjoy while Grammy winners and nominees Michael Doucet, Cedric Watson and Chris Segura sing with fiddles and accordions. The evening runs from 4:30-8 p.m. Tickets are available on Eventbrite for $188 per person.
