Co-chairs Irvin Mayfield and Dr. Corey Hebert put on a barbecue and champagne tasting for more than 150 people on April 17 at New Orleans Museum of Art’s Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden to celebrate the second annual BubbleQ fundraiser for the New Orleans Jazz Institute. University of New Orleans and the The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra came together in 2008 to create the institute. Combining education with professional practice and performance, the institute offers numerous jazz education and advancement programs.
Guests were treated to a night of enchanting entertainment from Nigerian drummer Baba Bisi Adeleke and Baba Ayanyemi from the New Orleans House of Culture, children from the Institute’s Saturday Music School and the Brass-A-Holics. In addition to the entertainment, attendees had the opportunity to bid on a number of silent auction items, and Dr. Corey Hebert took to the stage to auction off a set of Hornets playoff tickets.
The event featured several haute cuisine barbeque plates from some of the city’s favorite restaurants. John Besh’s The American Sector prepared barbecue sliders; Ralph Brennan’s Courtyard Café at New Orleans Museum of Art made barbeque shrimp and grits; and Zea Rotisserie & Grill cooked up some boneless Thai barbeque ribs with pickled cucumber. Sucré added a sweet finish with its peanut butter parfait and macaroons and chocolates. Glazer’s Distributors of Louisiana provided champagne.
