Where to go for New Years Eve

Once again this year there are so many great choices for New Years celebrations.  Tipitinas really has a lock on the week this year if you are looking to start the party early.  On Dec. 29 and 30, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic bring the funk and then Galactic returns for their annual New Years blowout on Dec. 31.  This year they have The Malone Brothers with them, and no doubt a whole host of guests. If you’re looking to get down, Big Freedia will be at Gasa Gasa on Dec. 29 and 30. Tab Benoit will be at Mid-City Lanes on Dec. 31, and Tank and the Bangas will play with Sweet Crude at the Joy for their New Years Eve festivities. If all that weren’t enough, The Revivalists are doing a three night run at the Orpheum on Dec. 29-31. This is an absolutely fantastic week for music. There are so many great events to choose from. Even if you’re not into going out on New Years Eve, there is plenty to do in the run up to the celebration.

What to Look for in the New Year

Several excellent artists have new records scheduled for 2018.  Keep an eye out.

Jack White – TBA

So far all we have about Jack White’s new record comes from a brief teaser video he released entitled “Servings and Portions from my Boarding House Reach”.  Check it out below.

Lucy Dacus – Historian

In March, Lucy Dacus who had my favorite record of last year will return with her new album Historian.  This first single “Night Shift” has dropped and it is sublime.

tUnE-yArDs – I can feel you creep into my private life

Merril Garbus is set to follow up the outstanding Nikki Nack with another exciting and joyful record of experimental excellence.  I have heard this record and it is exceptional.  Check out the video for “ABC 123” below.

Ty Segall – Freedom Goblin

The remarkably prolific Segall returns with his latest effort. I have heard this record as well and it is a monster. Segall continues his streak of complex and alluring rock. This sound here is huge. Check out the debut of “Fanny Dog” on Conan here.

Just is just a taste of the excellent music to come this year.  It should be an exciting journey.
