On Saturday, December 11, The Shops at Canal Place served as the setting for the 26th annual Art Against AIDS holiday gala and auction, benefiting the NO/AIDS Task Force. With a playful theme of “Out of the Frame and Off the Wall,” the event raised money for AIDS awareness and services for people affected by this disease.
Art Against AIDS, begun by Arthur Roger, sold ornaments displayed in his gallery at its first-ever event, raising more than $60,000. As a tribute to that kick-off, the gala again sold ornaments that had been crafted by local, regional and national celebrities.
The gala was preceded by a patron party, which offered delicacies from local restaurants, cocktails and a preview of the silent auction, as well as chances to place early bids.
