Saturday, April 12, the Windsor Court Hotel hosted a gathering of 165 guests at 5:30 p.m., for an evening of dining and dancing. The event was the 22nd Annual Judah Touro Society Gala, held in honor of Touro Chairman of the Board Lawrence J. Israel, recipient of the 2008 Judah Touro Society Award.
The Judah Touro Society Award, bestowed annually, is given to an individual – honorary board member, past chairman, medical staffer, volunteer or employee – who has made substantial contributions to the well being of Touro Infirmary.
Mr. Israel was chosen for the honor because, Katie Macaluso of the Touro Infirmary Foundation says, “[Israel] comes from a long legacy of dedication and service to Touro. For 108 of Touro’s 156 years of service to New Orleans, a member of Israel’s family has been in a leadership role.”
The evening, organized by the Touro Infirmary Foundation, was itself quite the success. In-house catering by the Windsor Court Hotel satiated guests and partygoers, dressed in cocktail attire, enjoyed the music of the Dr. Michael White Band. Festivities included an auction of 26 items, with pieces for bid such as an autographed Chris Paul basketball and jersey, as well as a pair of New Orleans Hornets courtside seats.
The festive evening turned out to be a smashing success. The event raised over $300,000 for Touro Infirmary.
