NEW ORLEANS JESTERS SOCCER TEAM ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR 2009 SEASON

New Orleans – (April 15, 2009) —  Move over Saints, Hornets and Zephyrs…. There’s a new sports team in town: the New Orleans Jesters!  The minor league soccer team, formerly known as the Shell Shockers, has a new name, a new owner, a new field, and more importantly, a new philosophy.  By focusing on the community, children, and competition, the Jesters will prove to be an integral part of New Orleans sports.

“Our goal is to produce a competitive team of top class players from around the world who will truly raise the level of soccer in the region both on and off the field,” said owner Dana Stumpf.  “The New Orleans area has a vast number of soccer players and fans of all ages, and we want to add to the opportunities available to them – both through games and through camps, clinics and training sessions.”

Head Coach Kenny Farrell, former head coach of the New Orleans Shell Shockers and a PDL Coach of the Year, said the team is shaping up beyond his expectations.  “We have outstanding players from England, Wales, Honduras and Brazil, as well as solid American players like local favorite, Brandon Chagnard.”

The Jesters will host a slate of eight home games at the newly renovated Pan American Stadium in City Park.  In keeping with their family-friendly theme, game tickets are just $10 for adults and $5 for children and students.  The Jesters home opener will be played on Saturday, May 16th and will be dedicated to area youth.  All children will get in free with a Jesters coupon or by becoming a member of the Jesters Kids Court.

SARAH ASHLEY LONGSHORE Designs a New Furniture Line  for ANTHROPOLOGIE :

Internationally known artist Sarah Ashley Longshore has committed to design a new furniture line for retail giant ANTHROPOLOGIE.  The  chair line will feature one of a kind artwork painted exclusively for ANTHROPOLOGIE  and will be showcased in the 2009 fall collection. This line, named ASHLEY LONGSHORE FOR ANTHROPOLOGIE, is the launch of an entirely new division for the furniture department of Anthropologie . “I am honored to be the first artist for this new furniture concept, says Longshore. The Anthropologie design team scouted New Orleans for new creative talent for upcoming collections. When the eight member ANTHROPOLOGIE entourage arrived to Longshore Studio Gallery, including Chief Merchandising Officer Wendy Wurtzburger, Longshore had the scene set with over 1 00 paintings and chairs featuring her artwork.  " There were 3 prototype chairs that I painted on directly so the Anthropologie team could actually visualize my artwork on furniture,…and they loved them! They were my story boards for the presentation and they worked!!!!!!!”
Longshore flew to her art showing in Manhattan in late March and then went to the Anthropologie headquarters in Philadelphia to see the mock ups for the chair line featuring one of her swimmer paintings.  The UK furniture buyer for the new International Anthropologie stores, to be opened in London in the late fall, fell in love with ASHLEY LONGSHORE for ANTHROPOLOGIE. The chairs will be featured in the stores in London, in the catalog and on website in September." “Anthropologie has been one of my favorite stores since the mid- 90’s. I have dreamed of working with them in some way.  This is just the beginning with this company.” Says Longshore.   For the spring collection, ASHLEY LONGSHORE FOR ANTHROPOLOGIE  will be working on additional furniture, including a sofa.

Circle of Friends For Education and Early-Detection (COFFEE) is a health program aimed at African-American, Latina and Vietnamese Women

Circle Of Friends For Education and Early-detection (COFFEE for short) is a multicultural community-based initiative dedicated to educating women in New Orleans about breast and cervical cancer, identifying resources to access quality healthcare in addition to providing support to improve their quality of life.

The American Cancer Society helped create this program by partnering with a coalition of diverse groups to train women in the following areas: Central City, the Lower Ninth Ward and Village De L’Est/Venetian Isle. COFFEE is specific to uninsured and underinsured African American, Latina, and Vietnamese women.

COFFEE is targeting women 19 years of age and older who want to learn about breast and cervical cancer screening and get linked to screening resources for screening education. After screening, the program will also help women 19 years of age and older with an abnormal breast or cervical cancer screen (clinical breast exam, mammogram, or PAP test) or a confirmed diagnosis of breast or cervical cancer.  All participants may speak English, Spanish or Vietnamese

A COFFEE volunteer lay health educator training session will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at the American Cancer Society Volunteer Center located at 2605 River Road New Orleans.
