NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) announced that applications are currently open for 2026–27 Creative Assembly residencies. Interested artists are asked to submit applications by the deadline of Friday, July 10.
The museum team shares that NOMA’s Creative Assembly program cultivates community engagement through year-long residencies in the museum’s Department of Learning and Engagement. Artists of all disciplines are encouraged to draw inspiration from public programs, permanent collections, museum exhibitions, and the Besthoff Sculpture Garden.
In addition to time and support for self-directed projects, selected artists receive stipends and professional development opportunities. Artists may also choose to collaborate with staff on public program offerings, including gallery talks, workshops, NOMA at Night, and more.
For the 2026–27 cycle, support for one Creative Assembly artists who self-identifies as Afrodescendant is provided by the Darryl Chappell Foundation.
Previous Creative Assembly artists represent a breadth of perspectives and fields, including the 2024–25 cohort, which included poet and novelist Andy Young; dancer and choreographer Caleb Dowden; filmmaker and visual artist Carl Harrison Jr.; musician, spoken word artist, and harpist Cassandra Watson Francillon; painter, drawer, and ceramic artist Horton Humble; clay, metal, and fibers artist Jer’Lisa Devezin; collage artist LaVonna Varnado-Brown; and poet Nikkisha Napoleon.
