April 2005

It’s Bank One Zoo-To-Do time again, so get ready to celebrate! To honor the imminent opening of the Audubon Insectarium, this year’s party theme is “Fireflies & Black Ties.” Kicking off the fun is the patron party—“Grasshopper Showstopper” on May 3 at the Audubon Zoo. Presented by Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry, the party will have delicious food, great entertainment and an amazing silent auction. The Zoo-To-Do is May 6 at the zoo, with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy as the featured entertainment, and of course, an extraordinary—and large—selection of food from which to choose. And don’t forget the Zoo-To-Do for Kids—“Bugapalooza”—presented by Humana, on April 29. Thanks to our incredible cover models, who have worked so hard to make these events happen: Zoo-To-Do chair Ashley Bright; Zoo-To-Do for Kids chair Lori Frischhertz; Larry Rivarde, senior vice president and managing director of the Audubon Zoo; Hassan Rifaat, market president of Humana; and Greg Rattler Sr., senior vice president at JP Morgan Chase (which has bought Bank One).
We’re right on target for our spring fashion feature—it’s all about color—whether it is clothing or jewelry. And “What’s Hot” showcases some stylish accessories and beauty items for the season. Adding to your fashionable shopping choices are two new stores opening this month: So Swank and Imelda’s. If you’re a fan of shoes, Imelda’s just opened at 244 Metairie Rd. Not only does this designer discount shoe store have more than 40 brands of the hottest shoes (Steve Madden and Laundry, to name just two), but it also has hats, handbags, jewelry, belts and other amazing accessories. So Swank at 5926 Magazine St. is a high-end women’s boutique with sophisticated and fun clothing and accessories. Be one of the first to see what exclusive lines this store offers at its opening April 16, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
April is full of festivals—the French Quarter Festival and the Jazz Fest are just around the corner. My entertaining column features ideas for having a Jazz Fest party at a restaurant—we chose the wonderful Dooky Chase. And after the party, you and your guests will want to hear music, so turn to our article, “After Hours,” which tells you where to go to sample New Orleans nightlife.
Be sure to check out the calendar—there are so many charitable events this month that benefit great organizations.
Have a great spring! •
