Leo Watermeier is curator of the Antique Rose Garden in New Orleans’ Armstrong Park. This 25-year-old garden has a national and an international reputation. As Watermeier notes, “It has grown to become one of the largest collections of 'old roses' that do well in warm climates…anywhere in the country or the world.” Watermeier is a member of the New Orleans Old Garden Rose Society, which recently received the 2017 Civic Award in recognition of the society’s work in the Armstrong Park rose garden. In this podcast, Watermeier shares information about venerable “old” garden roses; he also talks about new varieties of these beautiful flowers that have charmed flower-lovers from earliest times.
