Artful Beginnings

Frommers.com, a prominent voice in the travel industry, revealed its list of the best wedding location in each of the 50 states. Despite enchanting locations throughout the state of Louisiana, Frommer’s zeroed in on New Orleans. The Degas House is a charming historical bed and breakfast just blocks from the French Quarter. The building’s handsome interior, courtyard fit for 250 guests (plus a jazz band) and storied past as one of the most historically significant buildings in the city were cited as factors in the rating.

French painter and sculptor Edgar Degas is considered a founder of Impressionism — a designation he denied, referring to himself as a Realist — and is said to have painted his first Impressionistic painting in the early 1870s at the home. The Degas House is now a museum and bed and breakfast dedicated to displaying the works of Degas.

Those looking for the impeccable combination of history, art and New Orleans flair will gravitate towards this intriguing space. Couples can also use the bed and breakfast accommodations to rent out the night before the wedding for pre-event preparations or as an artful setting for the beginning of the honeymoon.
